During lengthy chat sessions, frequently over a friendly game of Spades, Rastiss learned that Marlene is a Gospel Singer. This led to a concert invitation from Ruthie’s Pastor at Bethel Assembly of God in Massena, New York.
Pastor Shear, at Bethel Assembly of God, contacted other pastors in the area and let them know that we were coming to his church on October 4.
We arrived at Ruthie’s home on Saturday afternoon, October 3, where we were shown unparalleled hospitality. We have known for a long time that the thing Christians did the best was break bread together. Ruthie is a wonderful cook and a gracious hostess.
We arose on Sunday morning and heard Marlene’s song “I Need You, Daddy” playing on one of the local stations. Even though it was airing on stations closer to home, it was a real thrill to hear. During trip planning, Pastor Shear had suggested that Marlene sing and Dan speak for a few minutes on Sunday morning, followed by a full concert on Sunday evening. While setting up for the service, Pastor Shear asked Dan to deliver the morning sermon. Marlene sang two songs and Dan spoke on living a Christian lifestyle. That afternoon, we were treated to a wonderful reception arranged by Ruthie. Many of those present at the morning service were able to attend, as well as many from the neighborhood. A wonderful buffet was served, and there was a time of great fellowship. The evening service was very successful, with Marlene singing fourteen songs, seven of which she wrote. Prayer and body ministry followed with many people receiving special blessings from the Holy Spirit. Lives were touched, spirits and bodies healed!!!
